Description
The Bentonville Skate Park located in Memorial Park is currently undergoing a Natural State-themed transformation. The Skate Bentonville design is a collaboration between the Mars Agency and Bentonville Ignite Program. As a nod to Northwest Arkansas’s natural beauty, The Mars Agency worked with students in the Bentonville High School Ignite Program to create a piece of public art to be painted on the skate park’s concrete ramps and bowls. The design resembles a lush riverside setting, complete with faux fish, eddies, foliage, and sandbars.
The beautification of the park with public art represents the continuation of a trend that is sweeping Northwest Arkansas to reinvent public spaces with large-scale artworks through dynamic collaboration. This project is made possible by Bentonville Parks and Recreation, The Mars Agency, Bentonville School’s Ignite program, BikeNWA, and Runway Group.
A team from The Mars Agency and students in the Bentonville Ignite program will begin installation of this art piece in late September. Because of this work, the park will be temporarily closed to the public. The project should take approximately three weeks to complete.
A celebration of the artwork will take place on October 12th at the Skate Park at 6:00 p.m. and will feature a food truck, DJ, and giveaways. Skaters and BMXers from around the region are invited to enjoy the new artwork at the park.
