Description
Start the new year outside - at Arkansas' largest state park! Join our park staff for a First Day Hike! This can be a special annual holiday tradition for your family! The Visitor Center will be closed, but bathrooms will be available at trailheads.
11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Winter Critter Hike on Sinking Stream Trail: This easy 0.5-mile mile trail is a great way to participate in the First Day Hike tradition. We will be learning about how wildlife survives the extremes of winter and participants are encouraged to bring their favorite stuffed animal. This soft-surface trail has a narrow section that is not suitable for strollers. Recommended age 4+. Meet at the Sinking Stream Trailhead.
12:30 – 1:30 p.m." Ozark Plateau Trail: Everyone can start the New Year off right with a hike at Hobbs! Join a Park Interpreter to learn more about the nature and history of the park on this 0.5-mile paved and ADA accessible trail. Meet at the Education Pavilion.
2:00 – 4:00 p.m.: Pigeon Roost Trail: Join a Park Interpreter on this 3-mile, out-and-back, moderately difficult hike to a scenic overlook on Beaver Lake. Meet at the Pigeon Roost Trailhead, wear sturdy shoes and bring water.
Participants will receive a First Day Hike sticker! Before or after the hike enjoy a hot beverage and s’mores around the campfire at the Visitor Center Pavilion
