Summer reading pays off year-round according to this article on Study.com. We are very fortunate to have so many wonderful local libraries in the Northwest Arkansas area that will be offering a Summer Reading Program this summer. Most offer fun incentives like special activities, drawings for prizes, and exciting events designed to motivate even the most reluctant of readers. Many programs will be kicking off in early June and will last through July. Participants will track their hours of reading (or being read to) and check in for small prizes throughout the length of the program. Check out our list and see which program is right for your family this summer and happy reading!

ImaginationSoup.net has a fantastic list of free summer reading programs online here.

Many cities have Little Free Libraries in multiple locations. Check https://littlefreelibrary.org to find one near you! "Little Free Library book-sharing boxes play an essential role by providing 24/7 access to books (and encouraging a love of reading!) in areas where books are scarce. At the Little Free Library nonprofit, we’re working to fill book deserts and grant libraries to underserved communities through our Impact Library Program and other initiatives."

Similarly, some school districts employ a Rolling Reader program over the summer months. The bus full of books makes multiple stops at pre-selected locations where anyone can come and check out the selection. While you don’t have to return the books it is highly encouraged. Check with your local school district to see if they have a program!

*Always confirm events before attending. While every effort is made to ensure the most up-to-date event information is included on our calendar, events are subject to change.
